🏢 A new Glasgow University-led report found Glasgow needs just over 6,000 student beds to meet demand, rather than the figure of 22,000 suggested by property giant Savills in April. - Stewart Paterson, Glasgow Times.
↳ The study states the city is well on its way to meeting demand, with nine applications approved since January 2023 (3394 beds) and another 22 live applications totalling another 7217 beds.
🏗 Plans for two more purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) buildings are set to be submitted to the council by the end of the year following public consultations: one at 200 Renfield Street and one at 285 Bath Street. - Nicole Mitchell, Glasgow Times.
↳ Members of the Blythswood and Broomielaw Community Council raised concerns about the affordability of the student accommodation after their own research determined the average PBSA in the city centre cost around £1,000 per month.
🏘 Partick Housing Association has completed a new £10 million, 46-home development at Bearsden Road in Anniesland. It has a mix of one/two-bedroom flats and social and mid-market rent homes. - Rebecca Newlands, Glasgow Times.
🚌 SPT has scrapped plans to sign a “Bus Service Improvement Partnership” with private bus companies. A spokesperson for SPT said: “We have now amended the original BSIP proposal to look at time-limited voluntary partnerships or other agreements to arrest further passenger decline and stabilise the bus network in the pre-franchising period.”
↳ Better Buses For Strathclyde is hosting a “People’s Rally for Public Control” outside the SPT offices on St Vincent Street tomorrow (September 20) at 9.30am. Via X.

🎣 Finnieston’s Sole Club is introducing two new dining concepts from September 27. The Chippie Club pays homage to the original Six by Nico “Chippie” menu and The Club Classics menu is available for lunches and late-night bites. - More info.
