Education is the backbone of the country, but in-depth coverage of the sector has historically fallen through the cracks. Sweeping claims made by politicians in central government or local councils tend to dominate the narrative. Press releases are tarted up and sent out without much mind paid to those impacted by the push and pull of the industry. But when news broke this spring that Glasgow City Council would be slashing hundreds of teaching posts in the wake of a £108 million budget gap, education coverage in the city shifted.
