Welcome to The Glasgow Wrap newsletter 🗞
A curation of Glasgow's top local news stories, delivered FREE to your inbox daily - without ads, clickbait, hyperbole or digital clutter.
Why do we know more about what’s happening down in London or across the pond than we do about what’s happening inside our own council?
Alarm bells have been going off for years about the crisis in local news – newsrooms are shrinking, titles are closing, and clickbait is proliferating as big companies struggle to monetise regional papers.
Social media platforms are overflowing with content (an image of a bin during the cleansing strikes springs to mind) and deprioritising news.
So how do we stay in the loop with the day-to-day happenings in our city? Powerful local journalism is still out there, we just need to find it.
Each morning I’ll be braving the onslaught of pop-ups, autoplay videos, clickbait and nonsense to bring you a summary of what you need to know for the day and where to click if you want to find out more.
I’ve been working as a journalist in Glasgow for the last two years. Reporting for the Glasgow Times, I’ve had the honour of meeting incredible people doing amazing things across the city and I’ve been able to share important stories that impact our daily lives (both big and small).
Local news has always been about strengthening our connections as a community, so you can help to make The Glasgow Wrap a publication that represents you – send in your events, campaigns, fundraisers or tips that you want me to share.
This newsletter (written by me) will act as a curator of Glasgow’s essential news, keeping you up-to-date and informed so you can feel more connected to the city.
A special thank you to Michael MacLeod at The Edinburgh Minute, who has been helping to bring this project to life every step of the way.
The goal is to create a Glasgow community where we can share news, events and experiences – without all the annoying digital clutter.
So, get in touch, share your feedback and help us create an easy way for everyone to stay up-to-date about our city.
Thanks for reading - if you like the sound of this project, please share this newsletter with your friends.
